Local vigilantes at Uduwa village in Chikun local government area of Kaduna state along Birnin Gwari highway on Monday arrested three suspected kidnappers and rescued two female victims in the area.
The suspects were arrested around 3pm after they kidnapped the victims from their matrimonial homes at a village closed to Marini forest in the area.
The leader of the local vigilantes simply identified as Alhaji told Daily Trust on phone that the suspects were caught inside the forest after abducting the two victims.
“We received a distress call that some Fulani criminals abducted two women from their houses around 11am. So, we went after them in the bush and we were lucky to catch two suspects after which they gave us names of their accomplice and we arrested additional one making three,” he said.
He explained that the suspects have been handed over to the state police command as they go after other suspects that escaped during the operation.
Kaduna state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yakubu Sabo, could not be reached for official comment as he neither picked calls put through to him nor replied text message sent to him.
