Kaduna targets 1.5million children as measles vaccination commences

Kaduna state government has said it is targeting 1.5million children for the measles vaccination exercise which commenced today in the state for children between nine months and five years of age.

According to the deputy director in charge of health education and community mobilization in the Kaduna State Primary Health Care Development Agency (SPHCDA), Hamza Ikara, over 25,000 women have been deployed to the 23 local government areas of the state to embark on house to house mobilization of women to bring out their wards for the vaccination.

The first phase of the vaccination exercise which commenced today November 9, 2017 is holding in 13 LGAs across the state and is expected to last six days while the second phase would cover the remaining 10 LGAs beginning from November 17 – 22, 2017.

LGAs for the first phase include: Birnin Gwari, Chikun, Giwa, Igabi, Ikara. Kaduna North, Kaduna South, Kudan, Kubau, Makarfi, Sabon Gari, Soba and Zaria. The second phase will include Jaba, Jema’a, Kachia, Kagarko, Kajuru, Kaura, Kauru, Lere, Sanga and Zango Kataf LGAs.
