Vice presidential candidate of the Abundant Nigerian Renewal Party (ANRP), Aminu Yakubu has described as ‘totally unnecessary’ the postponement of the 2019 general elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
News of the postponement of the election spread like wild fire in the early hours of Saturday.
Many electorate did not believe the news of the postponement, as they moved to their polling units to exercise their voting rights but were disappointed.
ANRP Vice presidential candidate in a statement issued Saturday said the action questions the credibility of INEC.
He added, “The cancellation is totally unnecessary because INEC had all the time to deploy election materials and other logistics. This action questions the credibility of the organisation.
“Going forward, technology should be deployed to run elections in Nigeria. Schools, boarders, airports and businesses were closed down for the polls, then suddenly there is a cancellation.
Also, the leadership of Unified Nigeria Youth Forum (UNYF) has condemn in totality the decision of INEC to postpone the long awaited 2019 general elections less than five hours to the earlier scheduled time
President of the forum, Comrade AbdulSalam Mohammed Kazeed in a statement issued Saturday said over N180 billion was approved for the election saying, “We are reliably informed that the said amount was duly released, and now we are talking of postponement.”
He said, “As at 5pm on Friday, most of the sensitive materials had been given out. Does that mean they did not know they have problems from the beginning before sharing those sensitive materials or they are trying to frustrate the same process themselves? If despite such huge amount allotted for the 2019 general election and the best we could get as a nation is postponement, then Professor Yakubu should resign immediately without further delays
