Kaduna: Police arrest one after shootout with bandits

The police have arrested a suspected bandit around Kudaru forest in Saminaka, Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State, and intercepted a Volkswagen vehicle and AK47 rifle.

The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Muhammed Jalige, said the suspect identified as Bello Abubakar was arrested during a shootout.

He, however, said Abubakar’s other gang members were at large, but the suspect had already volunteered useful information that may lead to their arrest.

According to the Police spokesman, “The Operatives of the Kaduna Police Command had on the 18th June, 2021 at about 0745hrs while on routine patrol along Kudaru forest in Saminaka, Lere LGA of Kaduna State, intercepted a Volkswagen vehicle (Golf) green in color with Reg.No.KAG 142 AA heading towards Kaduna.

“The Operatives noticed the suspicious disposition of the occupants of the said vehicle and tried to flag them down; they immediately parked some distance away and took to their heels into the forest.

“The Policemen however engaged them in a shootout of which they succeeded in apprehending one Bello Abubakar ‘M’ and when the vehicle was searched, an AK47 rifle was found concealed in a bid to escape the eagle eyes of the security forces along the route.

“The suspect is currently undergoing thorough investigation and is giving useful information to the Police while concerted effort is ongoing with the view to apprehending the fleeing members of the gang to face the full wrath of the law,” Jalige said.
