The Kaduna State government has alerted on alternative routes to ease traffic congestion from the ongoing road construction under the Urban Renewal Project within the metropolis.

A statement by Commissioner, Public Works and Infrastructure Chair, Traffic Management Committee, Balaraba Aliyu-Inuwa yesterday further enjoined motorists and the entire people of Kaduna metropolis, to be patient with the interim arrangement until the road projects are completed.

She said, “The Kaduna State Government regrets the inconvenience caused to motorists, commuters and pedestrians by the road construction projects.

“To minimize the temporary disruption to travel time and promote safety by keeping the public away from construction sites, traffic in the affected areas will be diverted to alternative routes as follows:

“Traffic intended for Yakubu Gowon Way will be diverted until its upgrade is completed. A temporary U-turn will be opened along Ahmadu Bello Way, between Leventis Roundabout and NEPA Roundabout, to ease flow of traffic. This will allow vehicles that intend to follow Yakubu Gowon Way to now pass through Kanta Road, beside NNDC building and divert to Bida Road, before making a detour to Lafiya Road, just before the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) office.

“Vehicles coming from the Kawo end of the road will take the new U-turn and continue their movement along the Kanta Road alternative route, without going to Leventis Roundabout.

“To further ease traffic along that axis, the median at the middle of Independence Way is being opened at Lafiya Road to allow traffic to flow through Assa Pyramid Hotel, leading up to the intersection of Hotel Seventeen. Subsequently, motorists will plot their various bearings from that junction.

“Traffic WAFF Road will be diverted to Dendo Road, which is located close to Singer Roundabout, up to Sambo Road, before linking Sokoto Road.

“Thereafter, motorists on the WAFF Road axis have the option of going to Command Children School Junction and making a brief detour into WAFF Road to link NEPA Roundabout.

“Also, they may choose to join Independence Way from Sokoto Road, through the Nigerian Airforce Training Command.

“Closure of roads during the construction period will be done in segments and appropriate signage will be put in place. Traffic officials will be on hand to guide motorists and direct traffic to facilitate easy vehicular movement. We are counting on your support and understanding.”
