The Chairman of the Labour Party (LP) in Kaduna State, Alhaji Awwatu Tafoki, has rejected the emergence of former Finance Minister, Mrs Nenadi Usman, as the party’s caretaker chairman.
Like the party’s National Working Committee, Tafoki described the emergence of Mrs Nenadi, a former senator for Kaduna South, as illegal and unconstitutional.
He argued that the appointment of Nemadi, who was unanimously elected to lead the 29-member national caretaker committee at a meeting convened by the Abia State governor, lacks legitimacy.
“The meeting held in Umuahia, Abia State, under the governor’s supervision, was a waste of time and resources. Only the national party headquarters has the authority to elect a national caretaker committee. Therefore, we reject Mrs Nenadi’s appointment as caretaker committee chair,” Tafoki stated.

Despite Nemadi’s origin in Kaduna State, Tafoki said her leadership would not be recognised due to lack of support from the majority of party members.
