Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai said the said the recently conducted local government elections in the state gulped about N4 billion.
The governor disclosed this yesterday when he briefed State House correspondents after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari.
“But, mind you with the electronic voting now we don’t need ballot paper. So, we saved N1.7bn in ballot papers alone. And, these machines can be used for three or four more elections because they can last for 10 years, all we need is to upgrade the software to add more parties and so on,” he said.
The governor said the Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission, brought in 300 electronic voting machines for the polls.
He encouraged other states to introduce the voting system, while offering the electronic machines for use in elections outside Kaduna State.
El-Rufai also said even if the aggrieved members of the New Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP) block quit the All Progressives Congress, President Buhari will still win the 2019 presidential election.
