Ashiru, one of the governorship aspirants in the state, served as member of the Kaduna State House of Assembly and House of Representatives for eight years each.
He said in Kaduna that he refused to heed to the appeal made by party elders calling on him to end his governorship ambition and, instead, contest for Senate.
“Some people are trying to consult us to see that some of us will run for Senate and another for governor. If they think they can persuade me to go for Senate, that is not what I am out for.”
Ashiru said he defected to the APC from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) because the PDP-led government has failed to provide infrastructural development in the state and unite the people. “There is no commitment to the development of the people. The state is divided along ethnic and religious lines.”
He said part of his plan to salvage the state is to improve revenue generation with a view to funding development projects, adding that he was not threatened by the incumbent governor’s interest to contest the election next year. He said that the recent removal of his campaign billboards by the opposition will not frustrate him.
