The Kaduna State Government has said it has spent N5.73 billion on contracts awarded between 2015 and 2017 in Kagarko Local Government Area.

The scorecard was presented by a team of delegates led by the Kaduna State Commissioner for Education, Ja’afaru Ibrahim Sani, at a policy town hall meeting in Kagarko, headquarters of the local government are, on Wednesday.

Aso Chronicle reports that the state policy town hall meeting was organised by the Planning and Budget Commission in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

The commissioner said the scorecard which covered contracts awarded and executed in the last three years included a total of 45 capital projects in the areas of education, health and infrastructure.

He explained that a total of N1.1bn was expended in construction of one science secondary school while 23 classrooms were rehabilitated and 11 toilets were newly constructed, with 13 solar powered boreholes.

Also, a total investment of N267.1m was sunk into the health sector with the renovation of the Kagarko General Hospital, adding that 10 public health centres were also renovated across the local government area in order to boost healthcare delivery.

On infrastructure, the delegates said N4.3bn was spent on the construction of six roads, a trailer terminal and erosion control to boost economic activities in the area.

The commissioner described the council’s boss as one of the best chairmen in the state and urged the people of Kagarko to continue to lead  as one of the most peaceful local governments in the state.

Earlier in a welcome address, the Chairman of Kagarko, Mr. Nasara Rabo, applauded the stride recorded by the present administration.

Mr. Rabo added that the event was to articulate the promises made by the present administration and to present a scorecard of what had been achieved.

Hassan Machu, who spoke on behalf of ginger farmers in Kagarko, urged the government to pay close attention to farming and assist them with fertiliser, insecticides and free interest loans.

The representative of people living with disability in Kagarko, Andrew Makeri, commended the state government and called on it to recruit the trained disabled persons to teach primary school pupils skills and craft making.

Aso Chronicle reports that participants at the meeting included market women, youth groups, people living with disabilities, religious, traditional and community leaders.

The programme focused on three key areas: economic development, social welfare and security and justice.
