Secretary to the government of Kaduna has confirmed a Daily Trust report that the state government has received a report by kingmakers naming nominees for possible appointment as Emir of Zazzau by Governor Nasir El-Rufai.
A statement issued by the Special Adviser on Media and Communication, Muyiwa Adekeye quotes the state government secretary Balarabe Abbas Lawal.
It says, “Upon receipt of the correspondence from the commissioner, the SSG will avail the security agencies of the names on the shortlist for the necessary checks. It is the duty of the SSG to forward the recommendations and the associated security report to the Governor for his consideration,’’ Adekeye said.
Minutes from the meeting of kingmakers obtained by Daily Trust show three nominees were named for the position.
All three nominees were scored by the screening committee.
They include:
- Alhaji Bashir Aminu, Iyan Zazzau, who scored 89 marks,
- Alhaji Muhammed Munnir Jafaru, Yariman Zazzau, with 87, and
- Alhaji Aminu Shehu Idris, Turakin Karamin Zazzau, who scored 53 marks.
El-Rufai’s ally, Ambassador Ahmad Nuhu Bammali, Magajin Garin Zazzau, did not make the nomination.
The statement added that the “SSG stated that he can confirm that the report of the kingmakers has now been submitted to the Commissioner of Local Government, a step that will trigger the next sequence of events in the chain of reporting and security vetting.’’
The Special Adviser said that the SSG appealed for calm and understanding as the responsible institutions manage a selection process that was last used 45 years ago.
It follows kingmakers’ selection of three nominees for the position of the Emir of Zazzau, awaiting appointment by Governor Nasir El-Rufai.
