The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has called on its officers and other security agencies to always engage professionally, saying any error would be disastrous to society.
The Ogun State commandant of NSCDC, David Ojelabi, said this at a retreat in Abeokuta, with the theme ‘Fundamentals of Law Enforcement and Protection of Infrastructural Facilities Towards Achieving a Peaceful Society’.
He spoke against the backdrop of the bombing of Tudun Biri in Igabi LGA of Kaduna State, which claimed over 100 lives on December 5.
The Kaduna State government said the Nigerian Army claimed responsibility for accidentally dropping a bomb on Tudun Biri.

The NSCDC boss saluted the army for the act of professionalism by admitting the error in the bombing.
“Historically, when we beam our searchlight on some of the causes of Boko Haram in Nigeria, we would realize that some schools of thought may lay blame to security agencies, citing either act of commission or omission from the use of firearms. A recent experience is the bombing in Kaduna on December 5/2023.
“However, the army, in an act of professionalism, accepted and apologized for missing their targeted enemies.
“As an admonition, security operatives should always affirm the fundamentality of rules of engagement at all times because the consequences of any error resulting from failure to engage professionally might not befall on members of the society alone but it may also hit hard on one’s immediate family,” Ojelabi said.
In her remarks, the Deputy Governor of the state, Noimot Salako-Oyedele assured the command of the administration’s support to provide the required logistics and resources.
“We recognize the critical role you play in the overall development of our society and we will continue to prioritize this relationship.
“His Excellency, the Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, assures you of the full support and commitment of this state in providing you with the necessary logistics and resources to support your call,” she said.
