Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company, on Wednesday, said it will roll out 80,000 prepaid meters to customers, especially those under Band A tariff class, as part of its initiative to target one million households in the next three years.
The DisCos said the rollout, which will commence on Friday, is part of a collaborative initiative with the Federal Government which will be sustained to ensure all Nigerians are metered.

The Managing Director, Eng. Garba Haruna, in a briefing said the 80,000 meters would be rolled out in the first phase of metering which will last between three to four months, adding that an additional 150 meters would be installed by February.
Eng. Garba said the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has given DisCos the right to withdraw service from anyone who rejects meters especially as about 400,000 customers need meters. “We will not ask you to pay for a meter before you are being metered, we will just roll out to you and then we will sort ourselves out, maybe gradually, over a period of time, something that you don’t even know that you are paying.”
The Chief Compliance Officer, Lawal Y. Lawal, said the federal MDA’s owe the DisCo over N35 billion adding that: “They have also taken steps by putting it in the regulation’s tariffs orders so that the outstanding will not keep accumulating.”
