“People who come to my shop ask if I come from Southern Kaduna, thinking I am a relation of Dr. Hadiza and sometimes, others approach me to ask if I know her; I would just laugh and say I do not.”
Hajiya Hauwa, who said she’s only seen the deputy governor in pictures and posters, said many people go to the extent of asking her where she comes from on the notion that she may actually be from Southern Kaduna where the deputy governor hails from.
The business woman, who is from Nasarawa State, said she’s only seen the deputy governor in pictures and posters. She however said her village is close to Gwantu – the deputy governor’s village, adding that she would be pleased to meet her. “It will provide me the opportunity to hug her and also see for myself if the observation that I resemble her is true.”
While commenting on her waina business, she described business in Nigeria as challenging. “Some customers cannot be pleased, they will complain about everything, especially when the prices of goods go up and we are forced to increase the price of our products. The customers will take it out on us as if we are responsible for the increase in the prices,” she said.
She urged small business owners to be patient with their customers, adding that through her waina business, which she started four years ago, she is able to cater for her family including sending her children to school.
Hajiya Hauwa, who runs the business with her daughter – an unemployed graduate, said with N50, 000, anyone could start the waina business. “The money can be used to buy rice, sugar, the pan for frying the waina, vegetable oil and all other things you’ll need but if you want to start big like getting a shop, you will need about N150, 000,” she said.
