The inmates of the Kaduna Central Correctional Centre, yesterday, staged a protest over congested cells following the spread of the coronavirus.

Daily Trust gathered that the inmates allegedly engaged prison officials, insisting that they be released to avoid being infected by the virus.

Police, however, said there were no casualties recorded during protest, adding that the situation has been brought under control.

The police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Jalige, explained that the incident was not a jail break but a misunderstanding between the inmates and staff of the prison.

Meanwhile, the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) has called on the authorities to ensure the safety of its leader, Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky’s and his wife Zeenat who were being held in the centre.
