Kaduna community appeals for intervention over damaged bridge

Residents of Nariya-Kudenden 11 in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State have appealed to the state government to fix part of a damaged bridge which connects the community with Kabala West.

Arewa Trust Weekly gathered that the edge of the bridge that connects with the road linking Nariya and other communities was eroded and washed away after a downpour, making the communities inaccessible to vehicle owners.

The village head of Nariya-Kudenden 11, Malam Haruna Musa Yarima, said the damage started with a section of the road, and while the community had purchased a truck-load of stone to fix it, the remaining part was eroded and washed away.

He stated that the concrete bridge was constructed years back and has since been the major road linking communities like Kabala West with Nariya, Mai Giginya, Faka, and Anguwar Kanti among others.

Yarima explained that because majority of the residents of Nariya-Kudenden 11 were farmers, it has become difficult to transport their farm produce to markets. “Presently, the damage done to the bridge is beyond the community. So we are praying, at the same time appealing to the state governor, Nasiru El-Rufai, to come to our rescue. We know him to be a leader with listening ears,” he said.

Abdulrahman Suleiman, a resident of the community, said the people were apprehensive that the river which flows under the bridge could overflow its banks due to heavy downpour to further damage the bridge and completely cut it off.

He added that with the bridge inaccessible for motorists, those with cars now park in neighbouring communities while others take the much longer route that leads to the community.
