Kaduna bombing: Anglican church cautions against demoralising military

The Anglican Bishop of Wusasa Diocese, Zaria, Kaduna State, Most Rev. Buba Ali-Lamido, has advised Nigerians against demoralising the armed forces in response to the Tudun Biri error bombing in Kaduna State.

He emphasised that both Muslims and Christians lost their lives during the unfortunate incident, and that the Nigerian Army has already apologized for the accidental bombing of the village.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the cleric expressed concern about attempts by some religious groups to “mischievously” portray the incident as an agenda targeting Muslims.

Recalling a similar incident in 2017 where the Nigerian Air Force accidentally bombed the Rann IDP camp in Borno, claiming 250 lives, he noted that the incident did not evoke the same level of hysteria witnessed today.

He emphasised the preciousness of every life regardless of religious affiliation, and stressed that northerners should be cautious not to demoralise the troops engaged in the ongoing war against terrorists.

“We must be careful not to demoralise the armed forces in the renewed war against the terrorists as mistakes are inevitable in the human endeavour of war,” he said.

The bishop called for a condemnation of narratives targeting the president or service chiefs based on regional or religious affiliations, saying such narratives had no connection with the tragic loss.
