Kaduna Assembly appoints new principal officers

The new speaker, Shehu Usman Tahir representing Giwa West constituency announced Alhaji Umaru Yunusa Mohammed representing Lere East as majority leader to replace David Umar representing Kachia constituency; Mrs. Esther D. Habu representing Sanga constituency as deputy majority leader replacing Aliyu Balarabe Jigo representing Kakangi constituency.
Philemon Usman Gidan-Mana representing Makera is the chief whip replacing Danlami Dan-Inna representing Kudan constituency.
Others appointed include: Alhaji Bala Yunusa Mohammed representing Tudun-Wada as minority leader replacing Dr. Shehu Usman Adamu representing Maigana constituency; Alhaji Haliru Sambo representing Ikara as Deputy minority leader replacing Mohammed Bello Shuaibu representing Basawa constituency and Alhaji Yakubu Yusuf representing Zaria Kewaye as minority whip representing Nasiru Abdullahi Mai-Kano representing Ungwar Sanusi.
The speaker however urged the new officers to ensure honesty and transparency in the discharge of their duties. Clerk of the House, Barrister Umma Hikima Aliyu in reaction to the claim by the ousted speaker Alhaji Mu’azu Usman Gangara alleging that Tuesday’s sitting which led to his removal was null and void because the House had earlier adjourned indefinitely, clearly stated that it is not the true position.
She explained that the House sat on Thursday September 19 and adjourned to Tuesday September 23 2013 saying an order paper was prepared to that effect and that was why the House sat in plenary.
Meanwhile president of Civil Rights Congress (CRC) Shehu Sani in a statement yesterday said the removal of the Speaker, Alhaji Mu’azu Usman Gangara is nothing but an elitist exercise in the game of power.
“The impeached Speaker deserves no sympathy and the new one deserves no hope,” Sani said.
