Mutual disagreements between party members and officials over irregularities at the previous congresses in July have continued to threaten the electoral prospects of the party. Several protest letters were written to the party’s national secretariat in Abuja by aggrieved members seeking intervention on some touchy issues including results of state congress, nomination of Suleiman Hunkuyi as deputy national organising secretary, allegation of dismissal of some local government officials and alleged unauthorised nomination of Malam Nasir el-Rufa’i as Board of Trustees (BOT) member of the party.
State party chairman, Barnabas Bala Bantex said a select group of officials drawn from wards and local governments met with state officials and elders to facilitate dialogue between members with a view to resolving differences. He said for the party to field candidates and face opponents in the 2015 elections in the state, members must eschew grievances and come to the aid of one another.
The chairman said a peace and reconciliation committee was set up alongside other committees to aggregate opinions, accomplish party objectives and ensure unity.
