Kaduna, 3 other states record 121 deaths from road accidents in 3 months – FRSC

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said it recorded 1,128 road accidents and 121 deaths in Kaduna, Katsina, Kano and Jigawa States between January and March 2022.

The corps’ Unit Commander, Zaria Command, Abubakar Tata Murabus, disclosed this in an interview with Daily Trust on Monday in Zaria, Kaduna State.

He added that 536 travellers sustained various degrees of injuries within the period.

According to him, the Kaduna-Zaria-Kano highway recorded the highest number of accidents.

He attributed most of the road crashes and deaths to over-speeding, overloading and night trips.

Daily Trust had, on March 15, reported that 11 people died in a road accident along Zaria-Kaduna road, which officials blamed on over-speeding.

Murabus said the accident occurred when a Toyota Carina car, with registration number KTL 251QG, lost control around Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, Zaria and somersaulted after hitting the median barrier.

He said the car, which was meant to carry five people, including the driver, carried eleven persons.

He added that the driver was said to be over-speeding with the overloaded passengers, which resulted in the death of all of them.
