Professor Babagana Umara Zulum of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been declared the winner of the Borno State governorship election.
Professor Zulum polled 1,175,440 votes, beating his distant trailer, Mohammed Alkali Imam of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who scored 66,115 votes.
The Returning Officer of the governorship election, Professor Alhassan Mohammed Gani, Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Kashere, Gombe State, gave the total number of registered voters in the state as 2,316,218; and the total number of accredited voters for the election as 1,292,138.
He gave the total number of votes cast at the election as 1,289,027; the total valid votes as 1,266,967; and the total number of rejected votes as 22,060.
The Returning Officer said 32 parties participated in the election.
Before his declaration of the winner, agents of all the participating parties signed the collated result sheets.
“Professor Babagana Umara Zulum of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected,” Professor Gani announced.
