There are serious security checks at the various gates to the National Assembly ahead of the inauguration of the 9th Assembly slated for today, Daily Trust reports.
Our correspondent, who arrived at the first National Assembly gate at about 6:45.am, observed that accredited men of the Department of State Security (DSS), the police, Civil Defence and personnel of the Sergeant-at-Arms manned the entrance.
There are at least three different entrances to the National Assembly complex, and it was observed that they were all fortified with both armed and unarmed security men.
The security officials, it was observed, only allowed persons accredited by the National Assembly for the inauguration to gain access into the complex.
It was further observed that there was orderliness in the process so far.
The inauguration is expected to commence at 10.am, starting first with the Senate where new Senate President and the Deputy Senate President will emerge.
The Clerk to the National Assembly (CNA), Mohammed Sani-Omolori, who is to conduct the inauguration, will then move to the House of Representatives to inaugurate the 360 new members of the House.
Both new Speaker and Deputy Speaker are expected to emerge during the process.
