Security officers on Wednesday blocked off roads leading to the Court of Appeal in Abuja, venue of the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal.
Roads from the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) Headquarters, Federal Secretariat and Ministry of Finance were blocked as movements to and fro the areas were halted by men of the Police, Civil Defence and other security agencies this morning.
No reason was given for the cordon but a candidate of the Hope Democratic Party (HDP), Ambrose Owuru, had brought an application on Tuesday asking the tribunal to stop the acting CJN Tanko Muhammad from swearing-in President Muhammadu Buhari on May 29.
There are also suggestions that the cordon may be linked with President Muhammadu Buhari’s expected appearance sometime during the proceedings.
Pre-hearing session on the petition by the PDP and its candidate, Atiku Abubakar, is also expected to begin proper today by 10:00am.
