Sanwo-Olu rolls out palliatives, orders ‘Danfo’ to slash fare

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of of Lagos State has announced Palliatives measures to cushion the effect of the subsidy removal.

The governor rolled out the palliatives at a media briefing on Monday.

He ordered a 50 percent reduction on buses owned by the state government, with effect from Wednesday, and a 25 percent slash from yellow buses popularly known as Danfo.

The governor also directed provision of more buses for  Civil Servants and the distribution of raw food items to poor and vulnerable families.

“Go there to the field from my left-hand, you will notice that the buses have been procured and they are supplying those buses already with the right number of vehicles to various rms.

“And that also will be worked on by the Head of Service on adequate provision. And those that will serve as extra, we’ll throw them in for general public transport system so that they can also feel…

“The other means of relief that will be passing included in the discussions with the stakeholders, once we conclude the arrangements are for the very vulnerable in our society, the poorest of the poor benefitting from our interventions

“These are discussed with various stakeholders, civil society groups, various churches and mosques, traditional rulers, CDAs and local governments and all of the others that will be.

“All of these procurements from our discussions will be done locally, meaning we will send to marketplaces, where they feel the effects, we will give the daily foodstuff rice, beans, garri and things like that. This will continue for a while until we see.”
