Prince Philip, the husband of Queen Elizabeth II of England, is dead.
The Buckingham Palace announced this in a statement on Friday, saying he died at the age of 99.
“It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
“His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle. The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss. Further announcements will be made in due course,” the statement read.
The prince married Princess Elizabeth in 1947, five years before she became Queen,.
The couple had four children, eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He died after a huge controversy rocked the royal family after an interview granted by Prince Harry and Meghan.
Meghan, his daughter-in-law, had laid racism allegations against the palace.
