PSC suspends recruitment of Constables after IGP’s protest

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has suspended the recruitment process of constables into the Nigerian Police Force.

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has suspended the recruitment process of constables into the Nigerian Police Force.

The commission did this less than 24 hours after the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, fumed over an advertorial on recruitment.

In a statement issued by the Force spokesman, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP had asked Nigerians to disregard the advertorial which was placed in national dailies.

Reacting on Tuesday, the Commission in a statement by its spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani, confirmed that there are issues between the police force and the commission, saying things would be sorted out as soon as possible.

He asked Nigerians who had shown interest in joining the Force not to apply for the job yet so as to give the Commission the time to settle its differences with the Police authorities.

Ani stated: ”The Police Service Commission notes the publication of the Nigeria Police Force with regard to the 2022 Constable recruitment exercise. ‘The Commission wishes to state that all contending issues around the exercise will be resolved between the two parties in the interest of the nation.

”All interested applicants and other Nigerians desirous of a career in the Nigeria Police Force should exercise patience while these issues are being resolved.

”The commission will continue to strive to give Nigerians a Police Force they will be proud of.”

Daily Trust recalls that the PSC had in the past sued the NPF and a former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, for conducting the recruitment exercise of 10,000 constables in 2019, but the issue was later resolved.

The disagreement at that time was whether it was the responsibility of the PSC or the NPF to handle the recruitment process.
