The joint National Assembly committee on poverty alleviation on Tuesday engaged the Special Adviser to the President on Social Investment Programme, Maryam Uwais, over the activities of the programme in the past three years.
The joint committee headed by Senator Lawal Yahaya Gumau (APC, Bauchi) and Rep Muhammad Ali Wudil (APC, Kano) engaged Uwais during an oversight visit to the head office of the programme located at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The joint committee said the oversight visit was an avenue for it to familiarize itself with the activities of the programme, its achievements since inception as well as its challenges.
Gumau said they were at the head office of the programme to ensure that they work together with the social investment office to ensure the success of the programme.
On his part, Wudil noted that they were not at the programme’s office for budget defence but to familiarize and ascertain the state of things under the office.
He said the jurisdiction of the joint committee has to do with matters on poverty alleviation, oversight of agencies on poverty alleviation and programmes as well as appropriate funds for them.
