Mu’azu Magaji to spend extra day in prison over Abduljabbar

Mu’azu Magaji, former Kano Commissioner of Works, will spend an extra day in prison.

This is because his case coincides with that of Sheik Abduljabbar Nasiru Kabara, who is being tried for alleged blasphemy.

In a letter, the state Commissioner of Police informed Chief magistrate Court 58, sitting at Nomansland, of the case of Magaji.

“The presiding Senior Magistrate SMC 58 Nomansland Kano has directed me to communicate to you that due to the fact that the case of Sheikh Abduljabbar Nasiru Kabara is coming up on the 3 day of February, 2022 before USC K/Kudu which coincides with the above captioned case slated for Ruling on bail application.

“That due to security reasons and since the same security personnel will be at USC X/Kudu this case is further adjourned to 4 February, 2022 by 2:30pm.”

Reacting to the development, counsel to Muaz Magaji, Barrister Garzali Datti Ahmed, said the late adjournment of the ruling was unexpected and therefore was received without any deep feeling.

“It was something we did not expect but looking at the reason given which is lack of security we understand and warmly accepted,” he said.

A Magistrate’s Court sitting at Nomansland area of Kano, remanded Magaji, at a correctional centre in the state when he was arraigned.

Magaji is facing a four-count charge, bordering on defamation of character, intentional insult, injurious falsehood and inciting disturbance against Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

Daily Trust reports that youths had staged a protest in the court, a situation that caused delay in the sitting of the court.
