Maimuna Aliyu, mother of Maryam Sanda, is still in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) following her arrest on Wednesday, Daily Trust reports.

Operatives of the commission along with armed policemen were seen whisking Maimuna into a white Toyota Hiace just as she was stepping out of the FCT High Court in Maitama yesterday where she had went for the continuation of a murder trial involving her, Maryam, her son Aliyu Sanda and Maryam’s housemaid, Sadiya Aminu.

Our reporter gathered that she was arrested for allegedly failing to honour an invitation sent to her by the ICPC concerning a charge before Justice Nnamdi Dimgba of the Federal High Court in Abuja. She had reportedly said she wasn’t comfortable going to the ICPC

A source familiar with the development told our reporter on Thursday that Maimuna was granted an administrative bail by the ICPC after hours of questioning on Wednesday but as at 12:17pm today remains in the commission’s custody as she is yet to meet the conditions of the bail.

It was gathered that she was requested to produce two sureties in the employment of the federal government on Grade Level 16 and must be resident in Abuja who must produce letter of introduction evidencing his/her status as a staff of the organization where he/she works.

The sureties are expected to sign a bond of N10million each for her release.

They are also expected to produce original Certificate of Occupancy (CofO) of land located in Abuja.

Daily Trust reports that Maimuna was among the 14 persons nominated to the board of ICPC, but her nomination and that of Saadu Alanamu were subsequently stepped down following revelations that both nominees were being investigated for alleged corruption.

Daily Trust reports add that Maimuna, a former Director with Aso Savings and Loans, was arraigned by the ICPC before an FCT High Court in Jabi on a three-count charge with the first count accusing her of selling off three plots of land in Jahi District, Abuja, on behalf of the bank at the cost of N57 million without remitting same to the bank.

She was also accused of making false statements to the ICPC during investigation that she remitted the money to the bank through another staff of the bank. She pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of N10million with two sureties in like sum that must be resident of the FCT and must swear to an affidavit of means.
