Jigawa Assembly suspends 3 LG chairmen  

The Jigawa State House of Assembly has suspended three local government council chairmen for allegedly travelling outside the country without seeking permission from the state executive or legislative.

The suspended chairmen included Hon Mubarak Ahmed of Birniwa LGA, Hon Rufai Sunusi of Gumel LGA local and Hon Umar Baffa of Yankwashi LGA who was said to have travelled to Ruwand.

The House took the decision, after the Chairman House Committee on Local Government Affairs, Hon Aminu Zakari Tsubut, forwarded a motion for the suspension of the affected council chairmen.

He narrated that prior to their travelling, the House had given an order for the local government council chairmen in the state to not travel anywhere due to the preparation of 2024 state appropriation bill and its presentation to the Assembly by the state Governor, Malam Umar Namadi.

Tsubut described the action of the chairmen as insubordination, nonchalant attitude to the primary responsibility which ought to be investigated and punish according to the law.

The members representing Malam Madori Constituency, Hon Usman Abdullahi Tura, and member representing Guri Hon Hamza Guri seconded the motion moved by Hon Tsubut.

The House then unanimously approved the suspension of the three local government chairmen and directed their vice to take over.

However the House constituted committee under the chairmanship of the Majority Leader, Hon Lawan Muhammad Dansure, to investigate the matter and reported back to the House within four weeks for further action.
