Imo State University (IMSU), Owerri, has pulled out of the ongoing strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

Consequently the university directed staff and students to resume classes on Tuesday.

ASUU had commenced strike in February over the failure of government to meet some of its demands, including an agreement signed in 2009.

But on Monday, IMSU pulled out of the strike, which has triggered nationwide outrage.

Public Relations Officer, Ralph Njokuobi, confirmed the development to our correspondent on Monday.

Njoku said the university decided to pull out of the lingering strike in the interest of the students and staff of the institution.

He said, “Yes. It is true. We have asked students to resume immediately. Lectures start on Tuesday. We are doing this in the best interest of our students and staff. We are not only pulling out of the ASUU strike but also asking everyone to return to school, we have asked students to resume immediately.

“We have already sent the release to all radio stations and we expect our lecturers and students back on Tuesday.”
