Dr Chike Akunyili, the husband to a former Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and Minister of information, late Prof Dora Akunyili, has been killed by gunmen at Nkpor in the Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Seven others were killed in the incident which occurred on Tuesday evening.

Daily Trust gathered that Dr Akunyili was returning from a trip in Onitsha where he went to collect a posthumous award of excellence for the late NAFDAC boss, Prof Dora Akunyili, when he ran into the hoodlums at Nkpor and was shot dead.
According to an eyewitness, the hoodlums were chanting: “No election in Anambra in November”.
The state Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, could not confirm the incident when our correspondent called his phone line.
Tochukwu said he was yet to get details of the incident.
