CSP Haruna Abdulmalik, a Divisional Police Officer in Nasarawa-Eggon Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, has been kidnapped.

The officer was on patrol on Wednesday night around the Nasarawa Eggon–Akwanga road when he ran into the gunmen who shot sporadically in air before whisking him away to unknown location.

The DPO was said to have received information that some gunmen were terrorising residents of Nasarawa Eggon LGA and while making efforts to tackle the situation, he was abducted.

According to the source, “We are really pained that the DPO was kidnapped. Since he was posted to our area, he has been making efforts to secure the environment from bandits and other criminal elements.

“The information we got was that he was trying to handle a situation because gunmen were operating in a location in the area but he was unfortunately kidnapped.”

“We also heard that the kidnappers have reached out to his family members to demand N5 million ransom. We are appealing to the State Police Command to ensure that he is released unhurt and they should arrested those involved in the act,” he concluded.

Confirming the incident to our correspondent in Lafia, the Deputy Chairman of Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area, Mr. Benjamin Kuze, explained that the officer was kidnapped at about 9pm on Wednesday.

He said, “We have complained to the police command about the development and we believe that efforts are being made to ensure his release from the kidnappers.”

Efforts made to reach the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, failed as he did not respond to calls put across to his lines.
