An Ethiopian, Geleta Ulfata, has defeated the Kenyans and other elite marathon athletes to emerge as the winner of the 2022 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon.
Ulfata beat about 300 marathoners on Saturday morning to win the 42km race.
He will be claiming the grand prize of $30,000.

Kenyan duo of David Barmasai and Emmanuel Naibei finished in second and third place to win $20,000 and $15,000 respectively.

In the 2021 edition of the marathon, Naibei emerged as the winner of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon.
Naibei had reached the finish line within 2hrs 15 mins 01 sec (official).

In the women’s category, Ethiopia’s Diagne Siranesh Yirga and Alemenseh Ginta finished first and second, while Kenya’s Naomi Maiyo finished third.

They earned the same prize money as the men.
