A clash between two rival cult groups has claimed four lives on Wednesday night, creating panic around Jos and Bukuru metropolis in Plateau State.
News of the clash had earlier been misinterpreted as an attack on Kwata community in Jos South local government area by unknown gunmen but Plateau State Police Command, in a statement, said the incident was a clash by cult groups near a night club at Kwata-Zawan.
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tyopev Terna confirmed the clash, saying the state command had received a distress call at about 7:30pm to the effect that unknown cult groups armed with cutlasses, axe and guns had clashed near a night club.
DSP Terna stated that, “as a result of the attack, four persons lost their lives. The corpses of the victim have been deposited at the Plateau Specialist Hospital mortuary for autopsy.”
He stressed that the Commissioner of Police, Austin Agbonlahor had directed the immediate commencement of investigation into the crime.
