Court restrains commission from conducting Kano LG election

Justice Simon Ameboda of the Federal High Court in Kano has restrained the State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) from conducting the local government councils election scheduled to hold on Saturday.

The judge held that the appointment of chairman and members of the commission, being card card-carrying members of NNPP, was in contravention of sections 197(1) and 200(1) of the 1999 constitution as amended and section 4(b) of Kano state independent electoral commission law 2001.

The court held that KANSIEC, as presently constituted, cannot conduct the local government councils election.
