Catholic Church bombed in Ondo, worshipers killed

Many worshippers were killed in an explosion which rocked St Francis Catholic Church, Owa-luwa Street, Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

Details of the incident were sketchy at the time of this report but a source attributed it to terrorists, saying the attackers opened fire on worshippers.

The worship center is adjacent the palace of Olowo of Owo. Owo is the hometown of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

Funmilayo Odunlami, Police Public Relations Officer in Ondo, confirmed the incident, saying investigation was ongoing.

Daily Trust understands that Akeredolu has visited the scene. This is the latest in what appears to be a resurgence of bomb attacks.

In the last four weeks, several bars have been attacked across Kogi State, particularly in Kabba Local Government Area.

The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the Kogi attack.

The terrorists also attacked a fun spot in Yobe State last month.
