Biden endorses Kamala Harris after quitting race with Trump

President Joe Biden has endorsed Kamala Harris, his deputy, as the Democratic Party’s candidate for the November 5, 2024 election.

He made the announcement in a tweet shortly after declaring that he was quitting the presidential race.

If she clinches the Democratic ticket for the election, she would be up against Donald Trump, who has been cleared to fly the Republican Party flag in the election.

Harris had run on a joint ticket with Biden to defeat Trump in 2020.

In his tweet, the outgoing US President said, “My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term. My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this.”
