3 persons die in Ebonyi pit accident

Three people allegedly lost their lives on Saturday when a golf car plunged into an unclaimed pit along the popular Alex Ekwueme Federal University road in Ebonyi State.
The pit is located at Enyigba in the Abakiliki Local Government Area of the State.
The driver of the car is suspected to be an aide to one of the lawmakers in the area, while the other two were alleged to be security men.
It is not yet clear whether the other two victims were policemen.
However, a resident, who doesn’t want his name on print, told Daily Trust that the vehicle left Abakiliki with unidentified security men and was heading to Ikwo Local Government Area.

But no official confirmation has been made as of Monday morning on the identities of the occupants of the car.
Similarly, some accounts on social media claimed that Mr Ogochukwu Elem is one of the victims.
Mr Elem is a young man and the youth leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
Also, Daily Trust learnt that the number of the youth leader had not been available since the accident happened on Saturday.
Our correspondent gathered that the rescue operation has resumed Monday morning.
