David Musa, a vigilante, told our correspondent that the suspect was apprehended while he was trying to run with a motorcycle.
He said, “The incident occurred around 9pm when many people had left the street. The suspect, alongside his friend, asked an Okada man to take them to an area within the community. While they were on the bike, the two suspects asked the biker to stop.
“As soon as he stopped, they stabbed him on the back with a knife, and the motorcyclist started screaming. Unfortunately for the suspects, people quickly surrounded the area and arrested one of them who was eventually killed and burned.”
He explained that, “When they started beating the suspect, the vigilantes asked the youths to stop, but they refused and continued beating him. We thought they had left him, but in the morning we saw his body burnt. The youths said they took the law into their hands believing that if the suspect was taken to the police station he might be freed by the police.”
Spokesperson of the Plateau State Police Command, DSP Alabo Alfred, didn’t respond to a call and an SMS sent to him by our correspondent.
