June 12: Move freely on Saturday, Police tell Imo residents

The police command in Imo State has told residents of the state to move about unhindered on June 12.

June 12 is a day set aside for the celebration of the country’s democracy day.

In a statement in Owerri on Friday, signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bala Elkana, the command said this was a sequel to the improved security situation in the state.

The statement directed night clubs/hotels services in the state, especially in the metropolis to open for business, assuring that their safety is guaranteed.

The statement said: “The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Abutu Yaro, held a security meeting with all night club/hotels owners/managers at the State Police Headquarters, Owerri, Imo State.

“During the meeting, the nightclub/hotel owners/managers expressed their appreciation for the improved security climate and free movement in the City.

“The Commissioner of Police used the medium to inform them of the security measures already emplaced in the state which is presently yielding results. And he solicited an all-society approach to improved security.

“The Commissioner of Police further assured them that some of the security measures put in place include visibility policing and robust vehicular patrol within the metropolis and its environs.

“This is to ensure that nightlife which the people of Imo State are known for is returned in full scale.

“The Commissioner of Police commended the good people of Imo State and the Night Club/Hotel owners for their support and enjoined them to feel free to come out at night to enjoy themselves without fear of any molestation, as adequate security measures have been put in place to protect lives and properties,” the statement added.
