Explaining the objectives of the workshop, the NMEP demand creation, Mrs Adeaze Maha said it was to provide opportunity for practising journalists to gain insight into long lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs) distribution campaign with emphasis on the on-going campaign in Kano State.
She said “It is to re-orientate journalists on malaria prevention and control with special emphasis on LLINs and to motivate journalists to develop interest in the coverage and reporting on the campaign pre, during and post campaign activities.”
On his part, NMEP team leader Dr Jamilu Nikau said over six million long lasting insecticidal nets would be distributed in Kano, saying the distribution was aimed at replacing the treated nets that were distributed in 2009.
According to him, the use of the long lasting insecticidal net is the best way to preventing Malaria which is responsible for many deaths in Nigeria.
He therefore charged journalists to use their profession to enlighten the populace on the benefits of using the nets and the effective way of using it.
