The former Super Falcons coach died on Thursday in Ibadan after a protracted illness that took him in and out of the University Teaching Hospital Ibadan on a number of times.
Speaking to Weekly Trust yesterday, Hamilton said when the news of Jossy Lad’s demise was broken to him by a sports journalist, he asked for time to make confirmation because he could not believe it.
He said even as Lad was bed ridden for a long time, many of them continued to pray for him believing that he was going to recover.
Hamilton said although he could not travel to Ibadan to visit the deceased when he was in hospital, he was in constant touch with one of his sons, Wale to know about the condition of his late father.
He reiterated that because he was not expecting such news, it was hard for him to believe saying even as it has been confirmed, he still can’t just believe it.
“I must confess that the news of the death of Jossy Lad came to me as a rude shock. I could not believe my ears when a sports journalist called to break the sad news to me. I asked him to give me five minutes to confirm it.
Jossy Lad was a fine gentleman who was humble to a fault. Although we did not belong to the same generation, we related well and I will miss him seriously.
“Even when he was in hospital, I called his son Wale who knows me very well to find out about his condition of health. You know I am in Lagos so I could not go to visit him. This is a sad moment for most of us because we have lost a very good friend and colleague”, he said.
