Jos youth urged to be good ambassadors of tomorrow

Youths in Jos  have been urged to always adhere to truthfulness, and the desire to work for the overall good of the society.

Dr. Auwal Halilu of the Bayero University, Kano made the appeal  in a paper at a 2-day seminar, themed; “Peace, security and social development, a task ahead of all,” organised by the Concerned Jos Youth Association (COJOYA.)

Dr. Halilu said youths must strive  to contribute to societal development through selfless services and without waiting for the government.

“Youths, as social media influencers, are often used by politicians, as well as others in leadership, and later dumped.

“If we want to progress, development, and peace leaders and followers must always try to avoid things that would lead to frustrating one another,” he said.

The Director-General, Plateau State Peace Building Agency, Mr. Joseph Lengmang, in a keynote address, said young people must also embrace the task of social, economic, and demographic change.

“Their wellbeing and meaningful participation are fundamental to achieving a just and peaceful Plateau,” he said.

Mr. Lengmang said all peace building efforts and strategies could never be complete if they failed to repair broken relationships, enhance resilience and build a new social compact predicated on social justice, forgiveness, healing, and reconciliation.

The Jos metro area commander of the Nigeria Police, ACP Usman Adamu, said the spate of insecurity, calls for greater synergy between security agencies and individual communities, hence the pressing need of having community policing, through vigilante and neighborhood watch.
