Jos trader sent to jail for smoking hemp

An Upper Area Court in Jos on Monday sentenced a 25-year-old trader, Anas Ibrahim, to six months imprisonment for smoking hemp and disturbing public peace.

The judge, Ms Irene Pati, who sentenced Ibrahim after he pleaded guilty to the offence, however, gave him a fine option.

Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Insp Labaran Ahmed, had told the court that the case was reported at the Angwan Rogo Police Station on Nov. 27, 2021 by one Malam Ibrahim Suleiman, the complainant.

The prosecutor said the convict smoked some wraps of dried leaves and started causing trouble with his neighbours without provocation.
