While blaming the estate agents for being responsible for the increasing house rent, the tenants, especially in the city centre of Jos, called on the landlords to consider the economic hardship bedevilling the country.
Bashir Shafa, said, “I used to pay N80,000, but now they have increased it to N100,000. This is not good considering how the economy of the state is; it is wrong to increase the price.”
Another tenant, Muhammad Illiya, said that the problem was caused by house agents who increased the money without the consent of the landlords.
Ohenerobo Tutormo, a real estate agent, explained that the increase was done with the knowledge of the landlords, adding that the increase was due to the economic reality in the country.
