Traders of various goods and services at the Bukuru Market on Wednesday decried a plan by the authorities of Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State to chase them out of the market and sell it off.
Ahmad Bello, the spokesman of the traders at the market, alleged that they had heard that there was a plan, since last year, to sell off the market but could not believe it until now when they were invited on the matter.

According to Bello, the explanation given to them concerning the planned demolition of the market didn’t hold water, calling on the state government and security agencies to investigate the matter.
He said: “We were contacted by the LG that investors have come to rebuild the market and put necessary amenities, and for that reason, the market would be demolished. We asked them if we could see the investors but have never seen them up to now.
“Few days ago, we saw some people who came into the market and began to take some measurements but pleaded with them to leave because their presence was generating tension. To us, there is a hidden agenda in the whole thing,” he added.
Efforts to get the Chairman, Jos South LG, Dachung Choji, to comment on the matter failed as he neither responded to calls nor text messages sent to his phone
