Jos North/Bassa: Appeal court upholds PRP candidate, sacks PDP Rep

The Court of Appeal in Jos has upheld the election of Muhammad Adam Alkali of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) as the winner of the Jos North/Bass Constituency of the House of Representatives.

A unanimous judgment of the appellate court, read by Justice Tani Y. Hassan, upheld the verdict of the tribunal, which nullified the election of Musa Agah of the Peoples Democratic Party.

The panel said Agah was not properly nominated for the February 26 by-election for the constituency, adding that there were incidents of over-voting.

While dismissing Agah’s appeal, the Court of Appeal also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to return the PRP candidate, who came second in the by-election as the duly elected member representing the constituency.
