Jos crisis: Sheik Jingir calls for calm

The National Chairman, Ulama Council of Jamatu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Ikamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS), Shiek Sani Yahaya Jingir, has called on Muslims across the country to remain calm following the killing of travellers in Jos on Saturday.
He made the appeal in a media chat Sunday in Jos.
Daily Trust reports that 25 travellers were killed in Jos, Plateau State, many others were still missing.
He said though the killing was painful and saddening, people should not take the law into their hands.
The cleric, however, demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators of the act.
Sheikh Jingir called on both the federal and the state governments to ensure justice for the innocent travellers.
He said: “This has not been the first time that Muslim travellers are intercepted and killed along major roads.
“Why would people continue to perpetrate such dastardly act and go free? it is uncalled for.
Sheikh Jingir, said every time government would set up a committee to investigate an issue, but hardly anything would be done about the outcome of the committee, hoping that the perpetrators of this act would not go free.
The Islamic cleric however commended all security agencies for their prompt responses.
H said, “I also appreciated the efforts of Governor Simon Lalong, Governor [Rotimi] Akeredolu and President [Muhammadu] Buhari, for ensuring that the matter did not escalate out of proportion.”
