Jenta Adamu Community in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State have pledged to boost peace in the area and to henceforth halt the violence and other notorious activities the community is known for.

Those who made the pledge were participants at an inter-cultural and inter-religious conference on promoting cultural and religious tolerance in Plateau State.

The conference called Zaman Tare (Living Together) was organised by the Dialogue, Reconciliation and Peace (DREP) Centre in Jos and funded by the European Union.

Speaking at the conference, the Ward Head of the community, Da Cabala Bako, said there was too much violence in the area, which he attributed to youthful exuberance, criminality and cultural misunderstanding. He said the violence has nothing to do with religion as nearly all the residents of the area are Christians.

He said the conference has instilled in the people of the area tremendous conflict management tactics and prevention techniques.

The Women Leader of the community, Grace Gabriel, said the programme will not only enhance good manners in their community but will change many family setting for the better.

She said as mothers, they have been concerned with the increasing cases of violence and have been looking for ways of halting the menace.

Abigail Magaji, who spoke on behalf of the organisers, said the programme, which also held in Jos south, has assisted in improving peaceful coexistence among the different segments of the society.
