Usman Ali, commander of the neighbourhood watch in the area, who was leading the work, said the effort became necessary because they could not wait for the government to do everything for them, adding that members of the community contributed money for the work.
He said, “Though this is a government road, we believe that government cannot do everything for us. If we are to fold our hands I think it would take longer for the government to do this work. Government has a lot of work to do. So, it is not a big deal for the community to do the small ones like the one we are doing.”
Ali said government could not meet the needs of every Nigerian and it would be detrimental to wait for its intervention.
He, therefore, advised communities to always come out and help themselves rather than wait for government to work for them.
